Introducing My Topic

The term “Baking” refers to the process of cooking by using high temperature. It is a concept that has been around forever whether it is employed to describe a hobby or a business. Additionally, its role in today’s society and economy keeps on increasing (Peckenpaugh, 2017).

We can’t possibly talk about baking without mentioning bread. In fact, it has the largest
market share in the baking industry followed by bagel and English muffin and is continually growing. Recent trends can be noted in the consumption of bread. Indeed, there is an increasing demand for organic and GMO free ingredients. People are also opting for grains or seed in their bread (Peckenpaugh, 2017). We can thus expect the growing demand for healthier food to affect baking and all its different categories in the near future.

The quality of the bake good will of course depend on the quality of the ingredients used. However it is also essential to have a good understanding of the baking process. There are a few scientific reasoning that is worth knowing. For example adding a pinch of salt will enhance the flavor and the type of sugar use will have a direct impact on the texture and the color (Sai Monohar, 2014).

While baking was once considered a luxury, it is now part of our everyday life. Over the years, traditions have been formed around baking. Gina Bell (2016) explains how during Christmas time, baking is as important as the whole fussaround Santa Claus.Every holiday she bakes and decorates Christmas cookies with her sons (Bell, 2016).We can thus conclude that baking connects family members and makes the whole process a bonding experience.

Therefore, it is not about the preparation process but the meaning associated with it. Similarly, we can look at its cultural aspect. There is no doubt that the consumption of food is cultural, so is its preparation. For instance in the Chinese culture, to celebrate the moon festival they bake mooncakes. (Langlois, 1972)

Lastly, it has also inspired TV programs such as baking competition. The Great British Bake Off is one of the most popular emissions in England. The audience rating for the show is consistently high during each season. Its popularity is due to the talent and passion that drive the contestants as well as the weekly elimination aspect of the show (Broadcast, 2015). This has definitively increased the interest of British citizen for baking.

My blog will allow my readers to dive into the history of different aspect of baking and learn more about its place in our current lifestyle.
